Mobile scrobbling!

At long last, Sam Steele’s MobileScrobbler iPhone app has been released via Installer.app.  This is the first AudioScrobbler / Last.FM social music client.  As you listen to music on your iPhone or iPod Touch, MobileScrobbler sends the title, artist, and album to the Last.fm website. Last.fm uses this information to suggest new music, new friends, concerts, and events based on the music you listen to.

* Automatically submits songs as you listen to them
* Works over EDGE or Wifi
* Queues songs when you’re in an area with no signal
* Runs as a native application, not inside Safari
* Source code available under GNU General Public License version 2

iTunes at Starbucks?

So today was the launch of the iTunes at Starbucks dealio.  I stopped by with my iPhone and a thirst for latte at 10am for a taste.  Starbucks was roasting hot and I couldn’t get the Starbucks iTunes store to appear.  I did, however, snag the last download card of the day: Bob Dylan’s “Joker Man.”

Itunes Starbucks

While it was downloading back at the office, I couldn’t help thinking that it would be infinitely cooler if the download of the day were a “new” artist or an exclusive recording of a well-known one.  As much as I dig Dylan- this track isn’t anything new or particularly special.

Wow, that’s a lot of iPods!

I’ll admit, found the announcements of 4 new iPods at Apple’s “The Beat Goes On” event confusing.  So many price points and capacity differences…

Looking on Apple’s site, I count 36 different styles on the “Identifying iPod models” chart.  Who knew Apple had released so many iPod models over the past 6 years?

We’ve come a long way from “iPod (5 GB scroll wheel)!”
